0Godus Review
Godus is a brand-new game from Peter Molyneux, the progenitor of god gaming and mastermind behind the Black & White series of games. He and his studio, 22Cans, have returned to their favorite genre with Godus, a PC and iOS game that allows you to create your very own religion from the ground up–literally. This is one experience no classically minded gamer should miss.
In Godus, you play as a literal god, with the power to shape the land and command your followers. After saving two people from drowning, you will guide them to the Promised Land and help them form the foundations of a massive civilization dedicated to your glory. Along the way, you can guide them through Voyages of Discovery, gain increasingly mighty God Powers, and convert people from other cultures to your religion. As your influence grows, so will your powers, until you are master (or mistress) of all you survey. Sound like an ego trip? It absolutely is–and a fun one, too.
It’s not all fun and games. You’ll encounter massive Champions in the wild, huge creatures that can kill many of your followers in a single blow. And should your reign prove to be less than benevolent–if, for example, you decide to sacrifice some of your followers at the Pit of Doom–you might find your subjects running off to join the pagans. But we have faith that you’ll overcome these challenges and become the most powerful god ever!
To be honest, Godus isn’t the most fun game we’ve ever played. The touch controls for Godus’s iOS version are a little too fiddly for our taste, and there are a lot of features that don’t feel finished because 22Cans is still making new versions of Godus all the time. Still, we see a lot of potential in Godus, and it’s hard to argue with Molyneux’s track record. For more on this promising new strategy game, check out the Godus Wiki.
